Managing peripherals
A peripheral is an integration used to monitor input signals and control output signals. Peripherals can be integrated into YourSixOS through supported devices with I/O capabilities, such as:
- Network cameras with built-in I/O ports (e.g. Axis cameras)
- Dedicated I/O devices (e.g. Axis A9188)
There are two types of peripherals:
- Input peripherals: Capture digital input signals from traditional alarm detectors and other systems.
- Output peripherals: Control digital output signals to sirens, lights, locks or any other generic circuit.
For an in-depth overview of peripherals, including general functionality and hardware support, please refer to the reference documentation.
Adding a new peripheral
Before adding a peripheral, ensure that an organization, a site and a device with I/O capabilities have already been added.
Locate the device
- From the navigation bar, click
Configuration. - On the page menu, click
Devices. - Use the
OrganizationandSitefilters to locate the device. - Click the device row.
Peripheral configuration
- On the
Edit devicepage, find thePeripheral configurationcard. - Click
Add peripheral. This will start the peripheral configuration wizard.
General settings
Enter the general peripheral settings:
Name: Name of the peripheral.Description: Description of the peripheral.
Port settings
Enter the required port settings:
Port: Which port to use on the device.Direction: Some ports have configurable direction. If configurable, select the direction of the port.Normal state: Select if the port should be open or closed by default.
INFO
The port number may differ from what's marked physically on the device. Consult the manufacturer's documentation if unsure.
Classification
Enter the classification settings:
Type: A semantical type of the port. The type has no functional meaning and is only used to visualize an appropriate icon in applications.
For an input peripheral, select Severity level. If the input is used as an alarm trigger, select Alarm. If the input is only for audit purposes, select Info.
For an output peripheral, enable Force confirmation if the control button in applications shall always prompt the user for confirmation.
Click Next to review.
INFO
Alarming input peripherals render alarm feedback in user interfaces (red borders, alarm indicators) and are suitable for panic buttons, PIR detectors, door contacts, and similar security devices.
Informative input peripherals do not trigger alarm feedback and are suitable for monitoring operational states like lighting, machinery status, or non-critical door positions.
WARNING
Forced confirmation should be enabled for output peripherals that control high-consequence devices such as smoke generators or high-volume sirens. This prevents accidental activation by requiring an additional confirmation step that cannot be bypassed.
Notifications
To receive alerts when input peripherals are triggered, a notification rule must be configured.
Output peripheral activation events can also be monitored to track deterrence system usage and manual interventions.
Alarm groups
Peripherals are Things and can therefore be assigned to Alarm groups to filter event notifications from peripherals depending on the state of the alarm group.
Additionally, alarm groups can be configured to source their armed state from an external system via an input peripheral. This is commonly used when integrating with existing alarm panels, allowing YourSixOS to follow the panel's arm/disarm state.
