Device management

In order to be able to collect and visualize evidence material, YourSixOS needs to make sure devices are operational and that their running configuration is compliant.

YourSixOS therefore comes with first-class device management capabilities, providing functionality such as:

  • Configuration management
  • Automated firmware management
  • Automated analytics (e.g. ACAP) management
  • Health monitoring (basic and advanced)
  • Cyber-security hardening

Configuration

YourSixOS configures a large number of settings on devices. Some of these are governed and enforced by the software, others are based of what an administrator has configured (see sections below).

If YourSixOS is not able to synchronize the configuration to the device, the device will show up as incompliant in the configuration section of the main application.

Retention

A device produces evidence data. That evidence data is stored either in cloud or on edge storage. In order to control how long that evidence data shall be stored, an administrator must set retention times for cloud and edge storage.

In addition to evidence data, devices also produce events. In order for an event log rule to know how long to store an event from a device or its child things, an administrator must set an event retention time.

Hardware configuration

In order for YourSixOS to know what evidence and control a device is capable of providing, the device's hardware must be configured. Examples of hardware are:

  • Barriers
  • Peripherals
  • Audio sources
  • Audio sinks

Optional features

In order to maintain sustainable system resource usage, some functionality is not automatically enabled and must be opted in for. Currently, there's two optional features that can be enabled:

  • Object Appearance Search (OAS)
  • Advanced Health Monitoring

Analytics

Just as with optional features, analytics are not enabled by default and must be opted in for. This is also to maintain sustainable system resource usage.

Firmware

YourSixOS provides fully automated firmware management, included at no extra cost. This can not be opted out from and comes with no additional options.

YourSix considers the firmware to be part of the software stack and is thus included into the expectations of a modern SaaS product.

Health monitoring

YourSixOS features several levels of health monitoring: native, advanced and image.

No matter the level of analysis, all levels are communicated as security events, for example as a push notification or webhook to third party ticketing system.

Many of the events can be used to perform proactive health monitoring. Proactive health monitoring is the art of letting an administrator know in advance of an upcoming problem rather than after the problem has occurred.

Native

Native health monitoring is an always-on offering that analyses the following:

  • Connectivity: is the device online?
  • Storage availability: has the storage been disrupted?
  • Temperature: is the device operating a sustainable temperature?

Advanced

Advanced Health Monitoring (AHM) needs to be manually enabled in the device settings, as described above.

AHM analyses the following:

  • CPU utilization: is the CPU overutilized leading to missed analytic events?
  • RAM utilization: is the RAM full leading to dropped recordings?
  • Storage use: is the storage about to be full?
  • Network packet loss: is the network link dropping packets?

Detailed thresholds

MetricThreshold
CPU overutilizationAbove 90% for more than 60 seconds
RAM overutilizationAbove 90% for more than 60 seconds
Storage fullAbove 90% for more than 60 seconds
Network packet lossAbove 0.1% for more than 60 seconds

AXIS Image Health Analytics

AXIS Image Health Analytics is an analytic application that can be enabled. Once enabled, AXIS Image Health Analytics will analyse the quality and health of a camera's image.
