Access rules

Access rules define who is permitted to enter, where, when and under what circumstances. They are built from previously created components:

  • Barrier groups
  • Identity groups
  • Access schedules

INFO

Each rule is configured with specific direction, and meaning that if a barrier requires a card for entry and a REX for exit, two rules must be created (one for entry, one for exit).

Examples of access rules

  • Ingress rules: control access into secured areas.
  • Egress rules: control access when leaving an area (often with a REX button, but can also be authorized using an egress reader).
  • Unlock rules: control when barriers shall be unlocked by schedule.

Creating an access rule

  1. From the navigation bar, select Configuration.
  2. In the page menu, select Access rules.
  3. Click Add access rule in the upper-right corner. This will bring up the rule creation modal which is described in further detail in sections below.

Create an authenticated ingress rule

  1. Enter the rule name.
  2. Select the barrier group to which ingress is being authorized.
  3. Select the authentication profile required for ingress grant:
    • Card (only card required)
    • PIN (only PIN required)
    • Card + PIN (both required)
  4. Select the identity group being authorized ingress.
  5. Select the schedule during which ingress will be granted.
  6. Set the direction to In (ingress).
  7. Click Save.

Create a REX egress rule

  1. Enter the rule name.
  2. Select the barrier group to which egress is being authorized.
  3. Set the authentication profile to REX.
  4. Select the schedule during which egress will be granted.
  5. Click Save.

Create an authenticated egress rule

  1. Enter the rule name.
  2. Select the barrier group to which egress is being authorized.
  3. Select the authentication profile required for egress grant:
    • Card (only card required)
    • PIN (only PIN required)
    • Card + PIN (both required)
  4. Select the identity group being authorized egress.
  5. Select the schedule during which egress will be granted.
  6. Set the direction to Out (egress).
  7. Click Save.

TIP

You can create a combination of authenticated and REX egress rules using schedules to allow REX exit during office hours and enforce authenticated (using a reader) exit during evenings and weekends.

Create an unlock rule

  1. Enter the rule name.
  2. Select the barrier group that shall be unlocked.
  3. Set the authentication profile to Unlocked.
  4. Select the schedule during which the barrier shall be unlocked.
  5. Click Save.

Reviewing and testing rules

  • After creating rules, review configurations to ensure accuracy.
  • Test each barrier to confirm rules are functioning as intended.
  • Validate that identities, schedules, and barrier groups align with security policies.
