Managing barriers

A barrier represents a controlled set of access points (e.g., door, gate, or turnstile). Barriers are added to a door controller device and configured with hardware for authentication and monitoring.

Before adding a barrier, ensure that an organization, a site and a door controller device have already been added.

Adding a new barrier

Locate the controller device

  1. From the navigation bar, select Configuration.
  2. On the page menu, select Devices.
  3. Use the Organization and Site filters to locate the controller device.
  4. Click the device row.

Barrier configuration

  1. On the Edit device page, find the Barrier configuration card.
  2. Click Setup. This will start the barrier configuration wizard.

General settings

  • Name: The name of the barrier.
  • Description: The description of the barrier.
  • Access time: Number of seconds the barrier remains unlocked after granted access. The access may be cancelled (barrier relocked) if the access is taken and performed before the access time has elapsed.
  • Extended access time: Same as access time, but for identities that have been authorized extended access time.
  • PIN length: Required length of PIN code used at this barrier.
  • Relay state when locked: The relay state of the controllers built-in Form-C relay when the barrier is locked. Adjust this based on the nature of the barrier to make sure as little wear is put on the relay and power consumption is kept low, while still taking power-loss into account.

Monitoring

INFO

Monitoring requires a door position switch (DPS) installed.

  • Monitor: The type of DPS that has been installed:
    • Closing Circuit (N/O): The DPS is open when the door is closed
    • Opening Circuit (N/C): The DPS is closed when the door is closed.
  • Pre-alarm time: Seconds between barrier opening and pre-alarm event and reader feedback.
  • Standard OTL: Seconds before triggering Open Too Long (OTL) event and reader feedback.
  • Extended OTL: Seconds before triggering OTL event when extended access enabled.
  • Cancelled access: Supports barriers (e.g. gates with magnetic locks) that depend on lock being engaged for closing.
  • Relock time: Seconds barrier remains unlocked after access has been taken (barrier has been opened).

Access point settings

If using readers, enable the reader ports and configure them as follows:

  • Type:
    • Wiegand
    • OSDP
  • Direction:
    • In: Reader for ingress
    • Out: Reader for egress

If using REX buttons for egress, configure them as follows:

  • Type:
    • Active low: Use active low if the REX button is connected to ground when clicked.
    • Active high: Use active high if the REX button is disconnected from ground when clicked.
  • Does not unlock: When enabled, REX click will not electronically disengage the the lock, allowing for mechanical opening of the barrier without any alarms firing.
