Event notification rules

Event notifications are messages sent to a recipient when an event of interest has occurred. An example is to send a push notification to the branch manager whenever there's an object detected by a camera outside office hours.

INFO

Event notification rules are advanced. Please study the events pipeline in the technical reference before following guides in this article.

Create a notification rule

  1. From the navigation bar, select Configuration.
  2. Select Notifications (new) in the page menu.
  3. Click Add notification rule.
  4. Follow the steps in the pop-up window.

Information

  • Enter Name and Description.
  • Select Filters (more info).
    • Alarm group active
    • Access point direction
  • Select Next.

Events

  • Select the event types (e.g. AOA, VMD, Device disconnect).
  • Select Next.

TIP

Check out the event catalog on what the various events are.

Scopes

Scopes declare the capture scope of the event selection. The wider the scope, the more events the rule will pass through.

  • Select from:
    • Sites: Capture events from all alarm groups, devices and things on a site.
    • Alarm groups: Capture events from a specific alarm group, including its child devices and things.
    • Devices: Capture events from a specific device, including its child things.
    • Barriers: Capture events from specific barriers on a site.
    • Peripherals: Capture events from specific peripherals on a site.
  • Select Next.

INFO

Things is an umbrella term for security endpoints hosted by a parent device, e.g. barriers and peripherals. See the resource reference for more info.

Recipients

Recipients are the destinations that shall receive the event notifications.

  • Select from:
    • Users
    • Organization emails
    • Webhooks
    • Central stations
  • Click Next.

Review and save

If everything looks good, click Save.

Editing notification rules

  • From Configuration → Notifications, locate the rule.
  • Click the pen icon to edit.
  • Update information and Save.

Best Practices

  • Separate security notifications (motion, audio) from health notifications (connect/disconnect).
  • Always configure include/exclude zones for motion analytics.
  • Setup alarm groups for central monitoring setups as they allow for arming and disarming.
  • Test notifications to confirm proper routing.
